Apparently, late September and early October is not a good time to be out of the Atlanta music game. My Facebook feed is in endless motion. My inbox is clogged and bloated. There’s so much I want to listen to and talk about, but work and bills are the unfortunate priorities of the day. Hence, this late dive into my monthly local record update, which has been in serious need of attention for over a week now. On some months, I might have even considered abandoning it altogether, but, holy shit, just look at this list! LOOK. AT. IT.
Luckily, I’ve been able to pull myself back into orbit before things really takeoff. Yesterday, of course, saw the release of the new Carnivores record, along with the blissfully dark debut from gloom-pop duo RRest. But that’s just the beginning. October 22 is looking to be a monumental day with (at least) four records scheduled to hit the streets and interwebs, including new music from Gringo Star and Degradations. But I’d be lying if I didn’t say that that vast majority of my enthusiasm for what could prove to be the best local music month of the year is reserved for two records in particular: first, the debut full length from the almighty PLS PLS (also dropping October 22) and, second, the much-anticipated sophomore EP from Atlanta’s reigning noise merchants Whores. (October 29), a record which only continues to grow more monstrous with every new track revealed. So break out your hoodies and windbreakers, along with your best pair of headphones, because the fall weather is back, and it’s brought some of Atlanta’s finest bands with it.
